UWF General Meeting – May 4, 2023 at 9:30am

Please join us Thursday, May 4th, when the Campbell UWF will have our Spring Program & General Meeting in the Fireside Room.
The General Meeting will be at 9:30am, followed by Brunch at 10:30,* and the Program at 11am with our Guest Speaker, Bobby Corson, who will discuss her book, Stepping Out of the Shadows: Naming and Claiming the Medial Woman Today.

Quote from Bobbie Corson: “This book is based on the study I did for my dissertation over 25 years ago, but is now expanded, readable, and touching with personal, psychological, and spiritual qualities.
The richness of our culture in part is that it is made up of so many different kinds of people, most of whom we know. However, there is a small group of women who aren’t names, known, or recognized. These are “Medial Women,” women who struggle to bring forth who they are and the gifts they can offer because they aren’t honored or understood. You may be one of these women, or you may know and love one but have been puzzled about who she is. This book may offer you an “ah ha!” Or it may bring a tear as you realize that you are not alone.”

Please join us as Bobbie Corson helps us to understand the mystery of the “Medial Woman.”
All are welcome!

(*Please bring your own beverages.)

Christmas Program and General Meeting – December 1st, 2022

Please join us Thursday, December 1st, when the Campbell UWF will have our December Program & General Meeting in the Fireside Room.
The General Meeting will be at 9:30am, followed by Brunch at 10:30,* and the Program, Merry Christmons, at 11am.
(*Please bring your own beverage as no coffee, tea, or juice will be provided.)

Chrismons, meaning “Christ monograms,” traditionally are white and gold designs made from Christian symbols that signify Christ. Often displayed on an evergreen tree during the Christmas season, symbols such as stars, crosses, fish, crowns, and the alpha and omega remind us of Christ’s identity, his story, and of the Holy Trinity. Chrismons symbols were first introduced in 1957.

Please join us! We will learn about the origin of the Chrismon tree and the meaning of some of the Chrismons. We will then have the opportunity to decorate the tree in the Narthex and turn it into a Chrismon tree using our Chrismons!

California-Nevada UWF Annual Celebration – October 15th

In Person & Virtual Event

We announce with great joy and excitement that the 2022 Annual Celebration be In Person for the first time after COVID. It will also be hosted via Zoom for those who wish to attend virtually. Find the info flyer & registration.

Location: Asbury United Methodist Church, 4743 East Ave, Livermore, CA 94550
Date/Time: Saturday, October 15th; 10:00am to 3:30pm
Gathering Time: 9:30am to 10:00am (Registration and Coffee Time)

Reflection and Meditation for the Day – James 2: 14-17
What good is it, my brothers, and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

This year’s celebration will be graced by the Western Jurisdiction President of the United Women in Faith, Bonita Jane Miller. Originally from the East Bay Area of California, Bonita moved to Alaska in 1978. She and husband Fred have three daughters and five grandchildren, with one more on the way. Traveling with or to visit them is a favorite pursuit! Bonnie is also a labradoodle mom to three sweet dogs.

Faith Talks – Sept 22nd

Click to UWF Faith Talks podcastsJoin Faith Talks LIVE on “Forging a New Path: Post Pandemic Faith Communities” Thursday, September 22nd at 11:00am PT.
Join us for bimonthly conversations with United Women in Faith,
hosted by Jennifer R. Farmer.

We’re excited to invite you to a special Faith Talks recording with author and former pastor Rebekah Simon-Peter. We’ll discuss her new book “Forging a New Path,” a groundbreaking guidebook for the church in this post-pandemic period. As the prophet Ezekiel surveyed a valley of dry bones, God asked him, “Can these bones live?” His prophetic vision hinted at the lifelessness of worship hundreds of years ago. But today, we are grappling with this same question; “Can these bones live?” We believe they can and so does Rebekah Simon Peter.
We hope you’ll join us on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 11:00am PT.
You can register here. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the webinar.

Rooted in our Foremothers, Women’s Vision of Shalom

Mary’s song of praise is her lyrical response to the good news of Jesus birth through her. Mary magnifies the Lord who has chosen her to be the bearer of the Messiah, and bursts into a vision of shalom where the powerful are brought low, and the lowly raised high, the hungry filled with good things, and the rich sent away empty. This envisioned world is one of peace, justice and wholeness.

Come join the Campbell United Methodist Women on Thursday, December 5, 2019, in the Fireside Room, as we discover how Christmas is a reminder that we, too, stand on the shoulders of our foremothers in mission while allowing future generations to stand on ours, and continue to engage in faith, hope and love in action.
ALL are Welcome!!

General Meeting at 9:30am

Refreshments at 10:30am

Celebrating the 150th Anniversary of UMW

After General Conference 2019, The United Methodist Church faces changes and unknowns.  What is known, however, is that United Methodist Women and its members will continue to stand together, committed to serving women, children and youth.  For us, commitment to the Purpose and prayer are the only litmus tests for determining who can belong.  The United Methodist Women celebrate our 150th anniversary this year.  We have persisted through change before.  We could not have been organized for mission for this long if we let our differences divide us.  You’ve been praying.  You are praying.  Keep praying.  And be sure to celebrate our 150th anniversary on March 23.

March 23, 2019, is a very special day for United Methodist Women members.  It is the day our organization will officially be 150 years old—a true day of celebration! It’s also a special Day of Giving during which members and supporters can give to the Legacy Fund Endowment Campaign to ensure our next 150 years in mission.

At Campbell UMC, we had a special service on Sunday, March 24th, with Campbell UMW members participating in worship.

Campbell UMW Supports Anti-Sex Trafficking Work

It’s less than a month to the biggest game of all in the U.S., the Super Bowl. The San Jose Grateful Garment office is just 11 miles from Levi Stadium, where the spectacle of Super Bowl 50 will unfold on February 7, 2016. There will be a lot of parties and special events leading up to and on the big day. Yet amidst all the festivities, we know the dark side of the big game is also coming into play.
The Super Bowl has been called one of the largest single human sex trafficking incidents, and while some have contested that statement, law enforcement officials say they know from experience it is indeed a haven for sex trafficking. Just last year, law enforcement agencies in 17 states arrested nearly 600 people and rescued 68 minor victims in the weeks leading up to the Super Bowl. Several women rescued from sex trafficking in the host city of Phoenix say they were brought there specifically for the game.

How can you make a difference for commercially sexually exploited children and adult human sex trafficking victims? Get in the game and help us reach the goal line: 250 backpacks full of clothing and other helpful items by Super Bowl Sunday. In the coming weeks Grateful Garment Project is asking the public to take part in their Pack-It-Forward program, which will put full backpacks into the hands of rescued victims.

Here’s a rundown, with links to where you can purchase items needed:

First Quarter (Jan. 11 – 17): Backpacks
Second Quarter (Jan. 18 – 24): Sweatpants
Third Quarter (Jan. 25 – 31): Sweatshirts
Fourth Quarter (Feb. 1 – Feb. 7): Sports Bras
